- cccchhhhaaaannnnttttaaaabbbb describes the monitor type that is connected to a
- server's video channel. The server uses this information
- with a description of the monitor in the mmmmoooonnnniiiinnnnffffoooo database to
- determine whether the connected monitor has the capability
- to run given video formats.
-
- The format of each entry in the cccchhhhaaaannnnttttaaaabbbb file consists of the
- channel number and monitor type name separated by a space.
-
-
- CCCChhhhaaaannnnnnnneeeellll DDDDeeeessssiiiiggggnnnnaaaattttoooorrrr
- The channel designator must be the first item on a line and
- is composed of three pieces:
-
- sssseeeerrrrvvvveeeerrrr.ssssccccrrrreeeeeeeennnn.cccchhhhaaaannnnnnnneeeellll
-
- The server and screen numbers take their normal values as
- referred to by X. The channel number is as treated by
- XSGIvc and labeled on hardware. The three values are
- separated by a period (.) character.
-
-
- MMMMoooonnnniiiittttoooorrrr TTTTyyyyppppeeee NNNNaaaammmmeeee
- The name you specify as the monitor must be a monitor type
- name given in the mmmmoooonnnniiiinnnnffffoooo database. If you supply a name
- that is not known, the server uses the type "default".
-
- The monitor type "default" is reserved and is not a genuine
- monitor type name. If you use default as the monitor type
- name, the server uses the default values provided in the
- mmmmoooonnnniiiinnnnffffoooo database in responses to users. It is likely this
- information will not be correct, thus it is recommended you
- supply the correct monitor type name.
-
- Some servers have the capability to query the monitor type
- from the monitor itself. If the monitor type name you
- supply is preceded by a question mark (?), the server will
- query the monitor type from the monitor. If the query is
- successful, the server will use the monitor type reported by
- the monitor instead of the monitor type you supply. If the
- query fails, the server uses the monitor type you supply.
- Queries are performed only during server initialization.

-
- Some monitors can report unique serial numbers that will aid
- in identification and correlation to a specific channel. You
- specify the serial number as a string enclosed in
- parentheses on the same line as the monitor type.
